MANILA, Jan. 26 – The first of the three series “Project for Peace” forum to promote a comprehensive peace program down to the grassroots will kick-off at the Astoria Plaza in Ortigas Center in Pasig City on Wednesday.

Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Annabelle T. Abaya said the project will tap civil society as peace partners of the government to find a lasting and just solution to the long-drawn insurgency problem in the country.

The “Project for Peace” program will also be held in Davao City on Jan. 29 and in Iloilo on Feb. 3.

Abaya will orient participants about the program and solicit their project proposals “for possible financial and technical support for calendar year 2010.

Executive Director Romulo B. Halabaso of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) will give an overview about the program.

The government is hoping to forge a separate peace accords with two main rebel groups – the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Communist Party of the Philippines/New People’s Army/National Democratic Front (CPP/NPA/NDF) – before President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo steps down on June 30 this year.
